So my post a day idea didn’t work.  I’m not even going to try something like that again for now.  Since this is mainly for myself, that’s really not such a big deal.  Anyway, I’ve started reading Left Behind and will review it as I go along.  I hope to make my first post tomorrow (or later today, depending on how you look at it).  But with classes starting this week, and looking for work, I can’t guarantee that I’ll be great about this.  But that’s the plan for now…

So in the two weeks since I made my first posting on here, I’ve managed an impressive zero more.  Granted, I’ve got some decent reasons (finals, holiday stuff, etc.).  Anyway, I’m making a promise to you, dear currently non-existent reader, to post one thing a day, every day, between now and the start of classes in January.  It may be something simple, like a picture, or it may be more involved.  And I think, at least for the time being, that it’s likely that this will blog will end up being more general, life-focused than my first post expressed.  Either way, that is my goal…

He shoots… he scores?

Hello World!

Once upon a time (about three months ago), I decided that I needed to expand my horizons and start looking into what the other side really thinks and believes, and not just view them from the safety of my favorite blogs, websites and tv shows that share my point of view.  I’ve read enough quotes, seen enough youtube videos, watched enough Daily Show, that I almost can’t believe the insanity I’ve seen coming from the Right Wing/Conservatives.  A couple months ago, I also came into possession of an iPhone (thanks, love!) and using it as though it were an iPod touch, I’ve discovered the joys of the podcast.  I now watch Countdown w/Keith Olbermann and the Rachel Maddow Show everyday (well, listen would be more accurate).

Anyway… I decided it’s time to be a bit more “fair and balanced” in my media consumption.  My plan is to watch some Glen Beck, maybe some Bill O’, and I’ve picked up a few books that are not part of my usual literary diet (Glen Beck’s Common Sense, Lee Strobel’s The Case for Christ and The Case for Faith (yay super cheap Amazon sellers!), the first Left Behind book, Keller’s The Reason for God, etc.).  Special mention will also go to a book a close friend bought me about 7 years ago while I was healing up from an car accident… Harry Stein’s How I Accidentally Joined the Vast Right Wing Conspiracy and Found Inner Peace.  That probably won’t be my first read, but it’ll be happening soon enough.

By now you probably should have an idea of what type of opinions I hold on most topics, even if the specifics may vary.

The main reason I decided to start this blog is because, well, a few “main” reasons, I guess.  First off, I like to think I’m a pretty open-minded guy.  I generally try to listen to other people’s ideas and opinions, weigh them, and then make up my mind.  And when I get new information, I try to incorporate that into my current positions.  But I’ve noticed from time to time that I’ll hear of something a Republican politician or conservative pundit has said or done, been a bit outraged, and then remembered a similar situation that involved someone of a more liberal persuasion and have given it extra thought to determine if it’s hypocrisy or non-equivalent situations.  I realize that at times I’m probably being a hypocrite.  But I’d like to minimize that as much as possible.  So in order to be fair, try to keep in open-mind, I’ve decided to delve into the madness (alleged) that is the current conservative wing of America.

Secondly, I plan on documenting my journey, posting about various adventures in punditry (both left and right, criticisms and praise, and maybe even some comparisons), reviews of books, websites, movies, etc., and occasionally just jotting down my current opinion on various important or unimportant topics so that, if nothing else, I can save them for posterity and see what changes and what doesn’t over the years.

I’ve noticed over the last couple of years that, while I’m pretty well-represented throughout the internet blog realm (white male, college educated), I do think I’ve got some interesting aspects to my background that hopefully give me a speck of uniqueness to my outlook on life.  I’m sure there are many many many people who I share opinions with, but I imagine we all got them through different paths, and I think the more voices out there expressing their ideas the better.

Thirdly, I just like to ramble on occasion.  Deal with it.

A side-reason for this site is so that I have a reason to write more often.  I’ve discovered that I rather enjoy the process of writing, both fiction and non-fiction essay forms.  I may from time to time post a little creative writing, an essay or two, or just rambling for fun.  Hopefully long term it’ll become a grab-bag of fun.

Finally, let me apologize in advance… some of what I say may be offensive, my language will sometimes not be PC, pictures and whatnot may not be safe for work, etc.  And my grammar and spelling will often be far from perfect.
